Corallium Rubrum
Powder CLASSIFICATION Corallium Rubrum belongs to
Phylum Celenterati, class Antozoi, underclass
Octocoralli, order Gorgonacei, family Corallidi.
Corallium Rubrum is the only Gorgonaceo which
have a hard calcareous, red skeleton that is
responsible for its compactness and its high
commercial value. HISTORY AND TRADITION For
centuries, the origin of Coral has been told
through legend. Its color, warm and alive, its
marine origin, its ambiguous nature, halfway
between the realms of animal, vegetal and mineral
must have created a strong impression among the
first inhabitants of the Mediterranean basin.

Akoshine Active Coral contains more than 90
calcium carbonate. In addition to its large
ratio of calcium it also contains significant
amounts of minerals Sodium and Magnesium and
trace elements such as Iron, Copper, Zinc,
Manganese which play a fundamental role in
cutaneous functions. A significant number of
samples of Corallium Rubrum, fished in different
areas of Mediterranean Sea, were subjected to
XRPM analysis in order to confirm the chemical
structure and to investigate possible structural
differences according to geographical origin.
Diffractograms confirm that that Corallium Rubrum
is near 100 calcite which is the rhombohedral
allotropic form of Ca CO3 and that there are not
signifacant structural differences according to
geographical origin of Corallium Rubrum.

We have verified the amount of minerals and trace
elements contained in our powder by means of
atomic absorption
indicative only, not significant because of
the limited number of samples used for chemical
analysis

We have investigated the optical properties of
our powder through ellipsometry technic.
The index of refraction is very good. It can be
compared to the index of refraction of glass
(1,4) and crystal (1,56). Because of the limited
number of samples, the data is reliable but its
value could probably be superior due to the high
porosity of the powder.

through BET method.

The data obtained is superior to the main BET
surface area of other fine cosmetic powders used
for filling wrinkles, hiding imperfection and
promoting radiance. For example the BET surface
area of silica powder is 9 m2/g

SENSORY EVALUATION IN VIVO Blind study with a
cream containing 2 of Akoshine Active Coral -
twice daily facial application for 1 month. The
protocol was carried on through the evaluation of
5 selected parameters by 30 female volunteers,
with different type of skin and aged 30-65.
100 of panellists observed a visible improvement
in the appearance of the skin, from the second
