Title: Christianity vs. Islam

1
Christianity vs. Islam
  • Presented by
  • Laura Girolamo, Jordan Gross, Craig Ford, Corey
    Enberg

2
Introduction
  • Religion is one of the most controversial topics
in our world today. The idea of a higher power is
one of the greatest and one of the deadliest
    concepts in our world.
  • The problem is that people use religion as a
weapon. People use it as a weapon of warfare is
    verbally or physically.
  • If one looks into the history books one will see
that the majority of the wars that have been
fought have been over religion. Look, even to the
current terrorist situation where religion is at
    the core.
  • If people would search the core of their religion
they would see that these huge divisions we
create between people are actually opposite of
    what religion is about.

3
Islam
  • Islam represents one fifth of the worlds
population. Right around one billion people are
    Muslim.
  • Islam is the name of the faith and Muslims are
the people who believe in Islam.
  • Islam has the lowest converted rate and the
highest converting rate. Islam is the fastest
growing religion and if current trends continue
it will become the worlds largest religion
sometime around the mid 21st century.
  • Muslims believe in One, Unique, Incomparable God
who was created by the angels.
  • The word Islam means submission

4
Islam (continued)
  • The written beliefs of Muslims are written down
in the Quran. The Quran is a written down
record of the last words that God revealed to
    Muhammad.
  • The Quran is the prime source of every Muslims
faith and practices. It provides guidelines for
humanity and its basic theme is the relationship
    between God and his creatures.

5
Islam (continued)
  • Islam has 5 pillars of faith
  • These pillars are the framework of the Muslim
    life.
  • The first pillar is Faith
  • The belief that there is no God worthy of worship
except God and that Muhammad is his messenger.
  • The second is Prayer
  • Muslims are to pray 5 times a day.
  • These prayers are called Salat.
  • Prayers are said at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon,
    sunset, and nightfall.

6
Islam (continued)
  • The third pillar is the Zakat
  • The word means purification and growth.
  • The concept is that everything belongs to God and
wealth is given to human beings in trust.
  • The fourth is the Fast
  • Every year during the month of Ramadan Muslims
    fast from light until sundown.
  • They withstand from food, drink, and sexual
    relations.
  • The final pillar is the Pilgrimage to Mecca (or
    the Hajj)
  • It is required for those who are physically and
financially able to make the journey.

7
Islam (continued)
  • Jesus regards him as a great prophet but in the
end they believe that Gods final message to the
    world was revealed to Muhammad.
  • The family is the most important part and the
    center of Muslim society.
  • Muslims are also taught that there are three
things that can help a person after death.
  • They are charity which he had given, knowledge
which he taught, and prayers on their behalf by
    those living.

8
Christianity
  • Christianity is the largest religion in the world
    today.
  • One out of three humans worldwide identify
    themselves as a Christian.
  • It is about 33 percent of all people worldwide.
  • It has given people hope for life after death.
  • It started some 2000 years ago in Israel with
    Jesus Christ and his disciples.
  • Jesus Christ lived, loved, and taught among
    humanity.

9
Christianity
  • The history of the church can be rather complex
or complicated. It is very beneficiary to
    understand the church.
  • Here is a simple chronology of church history
  • (70-312 AD) The Age of Christianity
  • (312-590) The Age of the Christian Empire
  • (590-1517) The Middle Ages
  • (1517-1648) The Age of Reformation
  • (1648-1789) The Age of Reason and Revival
  • (1789-1914) The Age of Progress
  • (1914-current) The Age of Ideologies.
  • After seeing this simple chronology, one should
be able to better understand the Christian church
    history.

10
Christianity
  • The basic building block in society is the
    family.
  • Families are being formed everyday.
  • Many Christian denominations look upon marriage
    as being ordained by God.
  • It is patterned after Gods creation of the first
    couple, Adam and Eve.

11
Research Method
  • For our project we used the qualitative method of
    research.
  • We learned a lot about both of the worlds major
    religions.
  • For Muslims the holy book is the Quran (which is
supposed to be read in Arabic), and they are
expected to pray five times a day.
  • Before you pray you must wash yourself in a
    ritualistic fashion.
  • The Muslim holy places or Mosques lend themselves
to this by making them so big it makes the person
    feel so small.
  • The holy book for Christians is the Holy Bible.
  • Christians are expected to go to church on
    Sundays for one hour.
  • Christianity revolves around Jesus who Christians
believe is the son of God.

12
Research Method
  • Christians believe in God, that Jesus is the son
of God, and that Jesus is the best example on a
    human living.
  • Muslims also believe in a God but they believe
that the last message to mankind was revealed
    through Mohammad.
  • Muslims respect Jesus greatly as a prophet
however, they put Mohammad on a higher pedestal
because they believe that Gods plans were
    revealed through Mohammad.
  • It is hard to believe that these few differences
caused some of the bloodiest wars known to human
    kind.
  • Even now days with the war on terrorism is partly
revolved around religion. Religion can be a
great thing but taken too seriously it can be the
most violent thing in human existence.

13
Conclusion
  • Christianity and Islam are very much the same
but have some differences. The differences are
equivalent to one another. For example,
Christianity uses the bible and Islam uses the
Quran. One thing that all people need to do is,
instead of focusing on the differences and hating
one another for it, we should learn to understand
one another. One thing that every religion has in
common is that if it is taken to the extreme, it
    is a very dangerous thing.
