1
RASCAL
RASCAL
  • By Sterling North

2
In the book Rascal gets in a lot of trouble even
for Sterling
  • Rascal always steels shiny things from people
  • Rascal eats sweet corn from all of the neighbors
  • Sterling has to put Rascal in a cage because of
    his behavior
  • After a while he has to put him on a leash
  • Rascal still finds ways to get out of the cage
  • Rascal still finds ways to get out of the house

3
Theme
  • You should never let a raccoon stay home alone
  • Raccoons have a bad attitude sometimes and
    good attitudes sometimes.

4
What Happened
  • In the book Rascal got stranded from his mom so
Sterling and Oscar Sunderland picked him up.
  • Sterling raised Rascal up very carefully and well
but not well enough because he took other
    neighbors corn.
  • Rascal scares Sterlings sister Theo and goes to
his bed which Theo is in.
  • They watch and join a parade.
  • Rascal goes with another female raccoon.

5
Where was the story?
  • Rascal and Sterling were at a store to get a
collar and leash for Rascal. A guy makes Rascal
a collar with his name on it and a great looking
leash. They stayed at the shop for a while
talking. After a while they had to go home from
the shop. They said they would get some more
things later. And they went home.

6
Characters
  • Sterling North is one of the main characters.
He has brown hair, blue eyes, and wore normal
clothes to me. He was smart, nice to animals,
and an animal lover. Sterling is the caretaker
of Rascal another main character. Sterling is a
    great animal person.
  • Sterlings dad is a tall man and has normal
clothes and brown hair like Sterling and brown
eyes. His dad was kind, honest, and a business
man. He fits into the book by really never being
home and Sterling always talking about him.
  • Rascal is the pet raccoon of Sterling and he is
very mischievous for a raccoon. Rascal is short,
has black and white fur, and has a black mask on
his eyes. He is strong, brave, and funny.

New Words
  • Maniacal- Just then, the most appropriate moment,
something else began to laugh- maniacal, spine
chilling, laughter from across the lake,
maniacal- of or pertaining to maniac or a maniac.
Contented- As we sat utterly contented we sat
munching on our sandwiches a huge bird went
soaring over the lake, Contented- gratified,
pleased, happy. Osprey- The osprey has a slight
bend in the wings, Osprey- A large hawk.
Beachcombers- I walked the beach, like
beachcombers in a dream, Beachcombers- a seaside
vacationer. Rivulet- In a little pool made by an
entering rivulet, my raccoon caught a gleaming
minnow which proved to be a trout dappled with
    color, Rivulet- a small stream

8

My Life , His Life
11
How Does He Feel
  • I think the author feels ok about having a
raccoon for a pet. It probly seems fun to him
thats why he wrote the book. Sterling North has
a great way to write a book about a boy named
Sterling North. He might have had one when he
was a younger boy. I thought he really liked
    writing this book.
