3Presentation Objectives
- Board acceptance of the proposed model and value
proposition - Board acceptance of the business plan structure,
(pending the approval of the 2004 budget??) - To ensure maximum support for Chapters and
inclusion of all individual members, we request a
specific resolution from the Board supporting
that the individual member election of Trustees
be through Chapters.
4Setting the Stage for Success
- An attractive, credible, and sustainable value
proposition - Proposal includes a senior membership manager
- ISOC has never had a (senior) membership manager
- We now have project management staff
- Better able to support outreach
- Building the infrastructure to support Chapters
- Replacing the database system
- Developing templates and other resources for
chapters - Greater empowerment for chapters and individuals
5Why members?
- Greater legitimacy with more representative
number of Internet users - Greater knowledge through more (and more
representative) member polls - Greater ability to reach out locally, globally
- Greater ability to support and sustain local and
topical initiatives - Greater number and more vital chapters
- More partnership possibilities with other
organizations - Expanded channel for educational and public
policy initiatives
6Why paid members?
- Its the natural next step in a membership
program - We have a value proposition to offer and people
are willing to pay for it - People want to do more, to help, to be involved,
to be educated. This requires a funding stream. - Increased stature and increased credibility for
ISOC - Enhanced credibility of members and implied
higher quality - Its not about voting
- At best, voting is one of many possible benefits
7Why Chapters?
- Significant source of value and community for
members - Increases ISOCs ability to reach out locally,
globally - Increases ISOCs ability to support and sustain
local, topical initiatives as well as global
initiatives - Expanded channel for ISOCs educational and
public policy initiatives - Expands ISOCs knowledge through interactions
with Chapters - ISOCs international reach is key asset
