Lopez Valve

Instructions for Placement of Nasogastric Sump
Tube with PreVent Anti-Reflux Filter and Lopez
Valve

• Position patient. Lubricate tip of tube and
  insert Nasogastric Sump Tube with PreVent
  Anti-Reflux Filter and Lopez Valve following
  standard hospital protocol.
• Confirm placement of NG per standard hospital
  protocol.

Placement - Continued

• After the tube has been inserted into the
  patient, fit the 5-in-1 adapter snugly into the
  suction lumen to prevent suction loss.
• Attach the Nasogastric sump tube to suction using
  the lowest suction setting that will effectively
  decompress the patients stomach.
• Ensure the vent lumen pigtail is raised above the
  level of the patients stomach.

Maintain patency of NG Sump Lumen

• Follow Hospital Protocol for clearing main lumen
  of NG sump tube.
• After obstruction has been cleared, attach a
  syringe to the luer lock connector on the
  PreVent Anti-Reflux Filter.
• Inject a minimum of 15cc of air directly through
  the PreVent Anti Reflux Filter. (Do not inject
  fluid through filter)
• This will clear the filter and the vent lumen of
  gastric fluids and ensure the vent lumen is
  working properly.

Clearing Clogs

• More clogs will be visible with this filter
  than with the previous valve due to the 2 way
  air flow
• Clear all clogs as soon as possible to minimize
  distention of the stomach

Reminders

• There should be no reason to remove the filter
  as you inject AIR right through the top
• Inject ONLY AIR down the blue pigtail
• Flushing the air lumen (with AIR) is a good habit
  as it helps to maintain/restore patency
• Do not twist the disc like filter it will break
  the seal and cause leaking. To remove filter,
  twist at blue portion

Instructions for Lopez Valve

• Attach medication port cap to side C.
• Turn valve to position one.
• Attach suction tube to side A and push together
  firmly.
• If connection to a male connector is desired,
  attach Universal Adaptor to Side A. Insert male
  connector into adaptor, and push together firmly.
• To administer medication, remove and store
  medication port cap in valve turn handle.
• Attach syringe to side port, push and twist until
  tight and turn valve to position four.
• Flush valve per facility protocol.
• Return valve to position one when complete to
  avoid leakage.

Lopez Valve and Patient Transport

• Turn Lopez Valve (3 way stopcock) to the off
  position
• The OFF should be over the tubing lumen
• Without the Lopez Valve Insert the integral
  plug into suction lumen or wedge 5 in 1 connector
  in the suction lumen

StatLock NG Product

• Opens package. States contents are latex free
  and hypoallergenic.
• Cleanses skin site and NG tube with alcohol to
  remove oils and lotions from the area where the
  StatLock anchor pad will be placed. Allows
  alcohol to dry completely
• Applies skin prep generously to skin site and NG
  tube where anchor pad is to be placed, and allows
  prep to dry completely 10-15 seconds until smooth
  to touch.
• Peels away white StatLock liner off one side of
  anchor pad and applies to nose, lining up Tyvek
  strip with tube. (Does not adhere StatLock
  anchor pad to center of the nose, should be
  slightly off-set.)
• Removes second white StatLock liner from anchor
  pad and wraps StatLock anchor pad around NG
  tube, just below the nose.
• Monitors daily and changes StatLock anchor pad
  as clinically indicated, at least every 7days.

  the ideal stabilization device for nasogastric
  tubes and feeding tubes.

Discontinuation of NG

• Use Standard precautions when disconnecting the
  tube and emptying the collection container
• Gloves gown if splashing a possibility (during
  irrigation, and eye protection)
• Prevent contact with fluids during transport
