Title: Characteristics of Fungi

1
Characteristics of Fungi
  • Fungi are eukaryotic consumers, but they are so
different from other organisms that they are
    placed in their own kingdom.

2
Thread like Fungi!
  • Molds are shapeless fuzzy fungi.
  • They reproduce asexually.
  • They can reproduce sexually as well.
  • Sporangia is another type of fungi.
  • When they break open, they release spores that
    grow into new fungi.

3
Sac Fungi
  • This is the largest group of fungi.
  • Yeast is one type of this fungi.
  • Yeast is a single-celled fungi.
  • Morals are another type of this fungi.
  • This type is edible , and is multicellular.
  • Most of this type of fungi are multicellular.

4
Club Fungi!
  • This type of fungi are the umbrella-shaped
mushrooms and the most common kind of fungi.
  • Basidia is the first kind of club fungi.
  • Mushrooms are the other kind of club fungi.
  • They are also known as gill fungi because they
grow in the grooves, or under the top part of
    the mushroom.

5
Imperfect Fungi
  • This group includes all the species of fungi that
don t fit in the other groups.
  • These don t reproduce sexually because most of
them are parasites that cause disease in plants
    and animals.
  • One of these funguses is athlete s feet .
  • Another one is a skin disease.

6
Lichens
  • The fungi and alga live as one ,for example the
alga makes food for both of them and the fungi
    protects both of them.
  • These are all producers .
  • They produce food by doing photosynthesis , but
they are different than algae because they can
withstand drying out and they can grow in extreme
    environments.
  • Some types of these are Jewel Lichen and British
    Soldier Lichen.
