  • A phrase is a group of related words that is used
    as a single part of speech and that doesnt
    contain a verb AND its subject.

Preposition
  • A preposition is a word that shows the
    relationship of a noun or pronoun, called the
    object of the preposition, to another word.
  • Notice prepositions can change the relationship
    between mouse and the desk
  • The mouse is under the desk.
  • The mouse is near the desk.
  • The mouse is next to the desk.
  • RememberAnywhere a mouse can go

Object of the Preposition
  • The object of the preposition is the noun or
    pronoun within the prepositional phrase
  • Examples
  • Melissa is writing about her stay in the
    hospital.
  • The plane circled above the field.
  • Please go inside the house soon.
  • During lunch, Sarah sat with her friends.

Prepositional Phrases
  • 1st type The Prepositional Phrase
  • A prepositional phrase includes
  • 1. A Preposition
  • 2. A Noun (a.k.a. object of the preposition)
  • 3. And Any Modifiers of that noun or pronoun.
  • Example The car in front of us slid into a
    ditch.
