21st Century JournalismService Concept

Summary
Sample page
The aim of this material is to help journalists
to extend their knowledge, and support their
activities on the internet. 21st Century
Journalism is a team made training material, now
published in a small book. The book will be
available on Amazon.com fro mid-March. At
www.21stCenturyJournalism.com we will support
this material with a newsletter (now titled as
Trendwatch), a knowledge base (studies,
statistics, analyses), selected news sources, and
a blog. The pilot of this training was done at
Nemzeti Sport (HU) and Comapct (RO). The material
is used by Ringier-Nepszabadsag School of
Journalism, and we are teaching it as a seminar
at the University of Economics in Budapest.
This activity is extended to a complex,
customized service that helps to demistify
internet and utilize existing competences in new
media.

Potential Market
Sample page
Internal Editorial boards, online teams of
Ringier daily papers, that wish to increase
online and mobile revenues. External Publishers,
media companies who already run some online news
site, but are not satisfied with the
effectiveness. Since only a small part of the
potential external clients are newspaper
publishers, confidentiality and competition
issues are minimal. In addition there is a large
number of non-Ringier countries in the CEE region
where newspaper publishers are facing similar
problems as Ringer.

Service description
Sample page
  • The service covers a series of consultations
  • Deep interviews with the EiC and deputy EiCs on
    the targets and issues.
  • Collecting information on the current workflows
    and guidelines.
  • Preliminary survey on the new media competences
    of the editors.
  • Customization of the training material.
  • Training of the local trainer and assistance in
    organizing the training sessions.
  • Evaluation and follow-up.
  • As described above the service does not include
actual training, since this must be done by a
training-oriented local journalist. Some of the
service elements can be performed on their own,
e.g. the training material is available even
    without any further consultation.
