    Commons Site Coordinator Training held on October
    30th 31st.
  • Completion of the training certified each
    participant as an Internet2 Commons Site
    Coordinator.

  • The Commons is a framework for collaboration
  • Encourages interactive communication through
    large scale deployment of tools

  • community through membership and discussion

  • Series of LIVE presentations from all over the
    Internet using H.323 video conferencing
    technology.
  • Focus
  • on the practical use of H.323
  • technology for distance learning
  • technology for communication with far away
    places.

  • End users (NOT technical support people) should
    submit proposals to dixon.8_at_osu.edu
  • The International Space station connection is not
    possible this year.
  • It will be scheduled for a special multipoint
    conference in the near future.

  • MegaCon IV is fully interactive.
  • Participants can ask questions at anytime.
  • Video conferencing etiquette is to be followed
    (see MegaCon web site below).

  • Several times throughout the day there will be
    open sessions to

  • Form new collaborations among people of common
    interests.

  • Every registered organization will have about 30
    seconds to
  • introduce themselves to the world,
  • tell where they are from
  • show off
  • sing their school fight song
  • whatever

  • Vendors have donated many prizes.
  • Prizes include a 9,000 IP Tandberg codec.
  • Prizes will be listed on the MegaCon website
    shortly.

  • First Megaconference Game
  • Similar to Where in the World is.
  • Clues and help will be placed around the global
    network of MCUs.
  • You will have to find your way to the ultimate
  • destination where the "Evil Doctor X" will be
    waiting to give a prize to the first arrival.

  • How can you participate?
  • You must have an H.323 videoconferencing system
    with a hardware codec (e.g. Polycom, VCON,
    Tandberg, Sony,etc).
  • You cannot use a software codec (e.g.Microsoft
    Netmeeting, CU-SeeMe, etc)
  • The conference will also be streamed
    simultaneously.

  • How can I participate (cont.)
  • Have a connection to the Internet of sufficient
    speed quality that you can do high quality
    video conferencing at the speed of 768K bits/sec,
    using the H.263 video codec.
  • Endpoints that can only run at 384K and with the
    H.261 codec will be provided a more limited
    subsidiary conference which is linked to the main
    conference.

  • How can I participate (cont.)
  • You must register to participate as soon as
    possible on the Megaconference website by
    filling out the registration form.
  • All registrants will automatically be subscribed
    to the Megacon email list (if they are not
    already) to receive future updates.

  • How can I participate (cont.)
  • Successfully participate in AT LEAST one of the
    rehearsals that will be held between now and
    Megaconference IV.
  • You may participate in any or all rehearsals.
  • The rehearsals will help everyone to get the
    equipment and network bugs worked out.

  • Dates of Rehearsals
  • November 15 from 230 to 430 pm (EST)
  • November 26 from 700 to 900 am (EST)
  • December 3 from 800 am to 800 pm (EST) informal
    testing.

  • Additional Information
  • Endpoints will be assigned to one of the MCUs
    that will be used in the Megaconference.
  • Instructions will be provided on how to connect
    to the MCU.
  • The manager of that MCU may contact you to make
    specific arrangements.

  • Be polite in a video conference.
  • Mute your microphone when not talking.
  • Again, see the etiquette section on the
    Megaconference website.
  • Show up for the Megaconference with all your
    friends and participate fully.
  • Learn a lot.
