3
1st Reading
  • This is the famous story of the prophet Samuel in
the Old Testament. It is about the reception of
Gods Word. The Word came in the middle of the
night. It contains a command to communicate a
specific word --- but no call to be a prophet yet.

4
2nd Reading
  • In a separate theme, St. Paul talks against the
sexual permissiveness and vice prevalent in
Corinth. He reminds us to avoid every immoral
act. In the last part he says that the holiness
of each person is reflected in the community.
    Thus, we glorify God.

5
Gospel
  • John the Baptist heard God speak, and it drove
him to the desert. Thus, seeing Jesus, he
immediately recognized Him as the Lamb of God.
  • In the second part, Jesus calls His 1st
disciples, Andrew and John, and they immediately
    followed Him.

6
If only we listen carefully
  • Samuel, the youth, heard Gods voice in the night
    for his heart was open
  • Gods voice was drowned in the vices of the
    Corinthians, so was not heard.
  • John the Baptist lived in the desert so he heard
    the voice of God clearly.
  • Andrew and John had a willing heart, thus they
    heard and answered Jesus invitation.
