• Muscles in airways contract

• Can be controlled with medication
• Albuteral inhaler most common
• DO NOT TAKE COUGH MEDICINE DURING AN ATTACK!!!

• Bronchitis
• Very difficult to treat and often fatal.

Causes destruction of air sacs In the lungs.
This is PERMANENT DAMAGE! Holes in the air sacs
make the transfer of oxygen more and more
difficult. Occurs gradually over years of
exposure to cigarette smoke. Shortness of
breath Difficulty in exhaling Oxygen therapy is
necessary to survive.

  of which are known carcinogens.
• Smoking is directly responsible for 90 percent of
  lung cancer deaths and approximately 80-90
  percent of COPD (emphysema and chronic
  bronchitis) deaths.
