Title: The Rise of Islam
1The Rise of Islam
2- Arabic was the language of Islamic revelation so
it is considered the only true language in which
to read the Koran. - Abraham is the common ancestor of Judaism,
Christianity and Islam. Muslims trace their
origin to Ishmael, the son of Abraham and Hagar
the slave woman. - Jesus and Mary are both respected in Islam, but
only as a prophet and his holy mother. Islam
holds that Gods revelation culminated not in the
birth, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ,
but in Muhammads visions recorded in the Koran.
3- The Five Pillars of Islam are
- Prayer
- The Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca
- The Shahada or creedal statement of Islam
- The holy month of Ramadan
- Alms
4- Islams expansion came at the expense of
Palestine, Syria and Egypt. - The Muslims defeated the Persians, sacked
Jerusalem and Alexandria, spread to North Africa
and Spain and entered France.
In 684, the Dome of the Rock was erected on the
site of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem as a Muslim
shrine to commemorate the Night Journey of
Muhammad.

8- At the famous Battle of Tours in France 732,
Charles Martel, the Hammer, defeated the Muslim
forces from Spain.
9- Jerusalem is the third holiest city in Islam.
Is is said that the angel Gabriel brought
Muhammad to Jerusalem where he met the prophets
including Moses and Jesus before ascending
through seven heavens and standing before God. - Pope John Paul II held that Islam is not a
religion of redemption and as such is very
distant from Christianity. Still, the
religiosity of Muslims deserves respect.
