CALENDAR
  • Each of three processes follows a separate
    calendar
  • Deadlines (published by EVP office each
    July/August approximate deadlines are listed in
    this presentation)
  • Initiating the process
  • Submitting appropriate materials
  • Approvals at various levels

CRITERIA for Changes
  • Tenure and Promotion are dependent upon
    evaluations of professional performance that
    occur throughout the academic year (see next
    slide)
  • Class Change requires additional hours of
    (pre-approved) graduate coursework

EVALUATIONS
  • Student Surveys.
  • For all classes each semester for the first 2
    years for 50 of all classes in years 3 6 (and
    beyond)
  • Classroom Observations.
  • At least 1 observation by Chair in the fall
    semester until tenure is conferred
  • For non-teaching faculty, supervisors conduct at
    least 1 on-the-job observation in the fall
    semester
  • Peer Evaluations.
  • Performed in years 2 6, in the spring semester
  • 3-Year Growth Plans (completed every 3 years).
  • Self-Evaluation, which leads to Chair Evaluation.
  • Done annually, at the end of the spring semester
  • Candidates Should Keep
    Signed Copies of All of the Above
  • - Tenured faculty are to have at least 1
    classroom observation by the Chair during the
    fall semester every 2 years, unless the Chair
    would like to have them occur more frequently.
    If tenured faculty are applying for promotion,
    they should be sure to arrange for a classroom
    observation during the year of application.

    endorsed by college administration.
  • Official Transcripts. Get official copy with
    authenticating initials from ACCD HR and indicate

Non-Granting of Tenure
  • Candidates who do not apply for tenure in the 6th
    year may be denied tenure through a memorandum
    stating such by the Chair.
  • If tenure is not granted, candidates are allowed
    1 additional year of employment prior to
    termination.
  • If tenure is denied, candidates may appeal this
    decision (see later slide).

II. PROMOTION in professional rank
  • Not granted automatically
  • Awarded only to tenured faculty or those making
    satisfactory progress toward tenure

    of promotion, the performance evaluation

Appeal of Promotion/Tenure Denials
  • PROMOTION. A faculty member who made application
    and was denied promotion may submit an appeal to
    the college Promotion Appeals Committee.
  • Deadline 21 calendar days following the Board
    meeting at which promotions were approved.
  • Appeals to be submitted in writing to the Chair
    of this committee.
  • TENURE. Termination of tenured faculty may be
    appealed.
  • Deadline 10 business days of receiving the
    statement of reasons for termination.
  • Request to be made in writing to the District
    Director of HR

Calendar for Class Change
  • Early April Make request for Professional
    Classification (PC) Change for next academic year
    to Department Chair
  • Late April Chair gives recommendation and
    documentation to Dean
  • Early May Dean gives recommendation and
    documentation to EVP
  • Mid-May EVP gives recommendation of PC change
    to President

Course Approval
  • Candidate completes Course Approval Form prior to
    taking courses, with course descriptions
    attached. Signatures required from candidate,
    chair, dean and EVP.
  • Candidate requests post-approval from EVP after
    taking courses by providing that office with new
    course transcript.
  • At least 50 of those courses per every 12 hours
    of additional coursework must be in field the
    other portion can be education courses
  • Continuing Education Units (CEUs) may be used
    toward promotion, depending upon the content of
    the CEUs (field or education). 96 clock hours
    9.6 CEUs 3 credit hours.
