  • Founding of Grundstücksfonds Ruhr (GRF)
  • As a result of the conference of Ruhr district in
1979 the Grundstücksfonds Ruhr was founded as
an important instrument of sustainable urban
planning whose task was the conversation of old
    industrial sites (MSWKS 1998).
  • In the first years the emphasis of the tasks lay
in the purchase of industrial sites.
  • These sites are revitalised in order to provide
attractive business sites for a diversified
industrial and service structure, housing areas,
cultural and recreation zones. Other aims are the
conversation of cultural heritage of the region
and the development of technology centres.

  • Interaction between Grundstücksfonds Ruhr LEG
  • Between 1980 and 2003 the LEG as escrow agent of
the fund aquired approximately 190 locations with
about 2.650 ha fallow land in 100 North
    Rhine-Westphalian cities.
  • In the year 2003 over 80 locations are developed
and 1.540 ha are sold (610 ha of commercial uses,
50 ha for living and 880 ha for green-, leisure-
    and development functions).
  • The activities of the fund are supported by a
variety of other programmes and funds, mostly by
the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and
    structural funds of the EU.
  • The property fund is the most successful
instrument of NRW for a sustainable town
development today. Between the years 1980 and
2000 1,7 billion Euro were transacted and
    invested.
  • Because of the connection between business and
nature the LEG has developed the concept working
in the park. The LEG is also a competend partner
in cleanup operations and recycling. LEG offers
    cost-effective and durable solutions for
    different uses.
