ASAS Maturity

• Of 19 applications assessed, 9 have above 50
  maturity scores.
• Maturity has accelerated from 10 increase in
  scores (2006-7) to 13 (2007-8).
• Maturity cases-

• Lowest ASEP-VCP (score 6/24)
• Fastest ASPA-SM (UPS MS approval)
• Versions 1, 2 3 of report on ASAS-TN2 website.

ASAS has come a long way in 5 years

• SESAR and NextGen include ASAS in their long-term
  paradigms.
• ASAS and trajectory management are symbiotic
• We used to talk tentatively of ATSA and Spacing.
• Now the focus is on airborne separation.

The ASAS-TN is a unique forum

• Network of 100 ASAS stakeholders - meeting every
  6 months for past 5 years.
• It facilitates global co-operation for global
  interoperability.
• It is a forum for ALL stakeholders.
• Contributes to a better understanding of
  stakeholder needs.
• Seeks to identify issues and develop consensus.

Moving forward

• SESAR/NextGen-
• ASAS in a TM environment
• harmonise deployment
• Incentivise pioneer airlines and partnership with
  ANSPs.
• Realise benefits in oceanic and remote airspace.
• Early implementation of ATSA-SURF (Safety).
• ICAO must address ASAS standardisation at a
  global level.
• ADS-B technology issue.
